STARS Students went to the field trip of the year called SATURDAY AT THE SEA in the Florida State University Marine Lab by Turkey point Florida. Students did an extensive marine research to identify vertebrate and invertebrate by holding them and looking through microscopes while they are eating shrimp and moving around. The concentrated plankton was amazing to watch as they are attracted to light.
Students were amazed by having a chance to observe the fresh and salt water vertebrae and invertebrate in the lab. Then the groups went to a boat tour. Every student had a task to do. They loved to hold the fish and put back to sea without showing to seagulls who are begging to get some food. There were interesting blue crab species but they were not easy to handle. One staff member was pinched by a blue crab with a strong claw.
The field trips took place in two days three groups. Students in both days had amazing weather and experience. Many mentioned this is the field trip of the year!
