mathstarslogoStars Middle School’s third annual “MathStars” contest was held on Saturday, Feb 6th, 2010. Fifth grade students from different elementary schools in the Tallahassee area were provided 15 difficult questions to solve in 30 minutes. Tiffany Lee, a student from Mrs. Abele’s class at Hawks Rise Elementary, answered most of the questions right. She won first place and a laptop computer and a $100 gift card for her teacher. Sarika Karri and Ram Moore students from Ms. Avis Berry’s class at Gilchrist Elementary School won second and third places in order, an Ipod Nano and an MP3 Player for themselves, and a total of $175 gift card for their teacher.

Other placements: Zachary Knecht - 4th place, Justin Chen - 5th Place, Rithik Gavvala - Honorably Mentioned awards.

 

Each student received a “Certificate of Success” for their participation in the contest. They also enjoyed watching a 3D science movie and pizza sponsored by Bianca Pizza after the contest.

Congratulations to all participants of this awesome event! Good job to all the students and teachers! Participation was incredible for MathStars 2010. We appreciate everyone's hard work with the contest and we look forward to next year's MathStars Contest!

Fifth grade students from different elementary schools in the Tallahassee area were provided 15 difficult questions to solve in 30 minutes. Daniel Jung, a student from Mrs. Tuttle’s class at Gilchrist Elementary, answered most of the questions right. He won first place and a laptop computer and a $100 gift card for the teacher. Jong Jung, a a student from Mrs. Berry’s class at Gilchrest Ele-mentary won second place and an Ipod Nano for herself, and a $75 gift card for the teacher. Sasha Alabugin, a student from DeSoto Trail Elementary, placed third and was awarded an Mp3 Player and a $50 gift certificate for the teacher.

Each student received a “Certificate of Success” for their participation in the contest. They also enjoyed watching a show from Mad Science and pizza party sponsored by Bianca Pizza after the contest.

Stars Middle School’s first annual “MathStars” contest was held on Saturday, May 10. Fourth and fifth grade students from 17 Different elementary schools in the Tallahassee area were provided 15 difficult questions to solve in 30 minutes. Jenny Kang, a fifth grade student from Ms. Bryars’ class in Gilchrist Elementary, answered all of the questions right. She won first place and a laptop computer for herself and a $100 gift card for her teacher. Riley O’Bryant in Ms. Worrell’s class from Killearn Lakes Elementary won second place and an Ipod Nano for himself, and a $75 gift card for his teacher. Brian Lockwood, a homeschooled student, placed third and was awarded an Mp3 Player with 20 out of 23 possible points. His parents who are also his teachers, Mr. and Mrs. Lockwood, received a $50 gift certificate from MathStars. Each student received a “Certificate of Success” for their participation in the contest. They also enjoyed watching a show called “Spin, Pop, Boom” from Mad Science and pizza party sponsored by Bianca Pizza after the contest.
